Have you heard of The Posse Foundation

The Posse model works for both students and college campuses and is rooted in the belief that a small, diverse group of talented students—a Posse—carefully selected and trained, can serve as a catalyst for individual and community development. As the United States becomes an increasingly multicultural society, Posse believes that the leaders of the 21st century should reflect the country’s rich demographic mix. The key to a promising future for our nation rests on the ability of strong leaders from diverse backgrounds to develop consensus solutions to complex social problems. Posse’s primary aim is to train these leaders of tomorrow.

We're thrilled to announce our partnership with UnCommon Construction!
Do you have a child who is 16, able to attend a build day from 8-3PM on a Wednesday or Thursday and attend a virtual meeting on Mondays from 2-3PM? This program could be for you! This is not only for kids interested in learning about construction or boys, rather it's a crash course in soft and hard skills that will be useful to all kids!

    As an apprentice students will:

    • Join a diverse team of your peers from different high schools across New Orleans.

    • Build a whole house from foundation to finish, learning to use tools and new skills through phases of construction like wall-framing, exterior siding, installing windows & doors, interior trim, painting, and more!

    • Earn hourly pay, high school internship credit, and a matching Equity Award Scholarship* for after graduation.

Visit their website for more details. Apply today!  Registration closes August 28th! FYI, students need a letter of recommendation. Below depicts their commitment to keeping  our kids safe while learning this semester!

Designed by professionals working in the industry, our curriculum focuses on providing soft and software skills through engaging and relevant coursework. Our courses not only prepare students to earn a basic statewide credential in an Adobe software program, but also use project-based learning to foster problem-solving, collaborative working, original thinking, cultural awareness, and project management skills.

The after school program is free for members of NOLA Homeschoolers who also sign up to become a NOVAC member at the $25 level!  Registration closes 8/21 and classes begin September 1st. Please only sign up if you can commit to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:30 consistently.

With field trips, we'll alternate between parks and businesses. Thanks for your input, the first Friday of the month, we'll visit parks in Orleans Parish and the third, we'll visit parks in surrounding parishes. We'll offer a monthly field trip at the ERC where we bring in a guest or have a lesson where we make a variety of items- candy, bath bombs (see picture below), painting... and the fourth Sunday we'll visit a business. August is glassblowing, September is Paradise in Picayune... Emails go out to members on the website when field trips are scheduled, so make sure you're a member.

We're open to other activities. If a group wants to gather for a class or lesson on Mondays or Fridays when the ERC is not in use, let us know. Send a request to
